My name is Debbie Bryditzki....and this is my story....

Three years ago my husband, 11 year old son and I went down to Haiti with a group of people to hold a medical Clinic and week long Bible camp for an orphanage in Haiti. Claire “Lydie” Parent, the mayor of Petionville welcomed us to the country and told us her story of taking 40 children into her own home because they had no where else to live. With her was an adorable little 4 year old girl with big dark brown eyes who sheepishly looked at us “white people” with curiosity.

Her name was “Claire” (her real name is Marie Guerline Clerge, but she wanted everyone to call her Claire after the mayor who had taken her in). We instantly fell in love with Claire and came home feeling we needed to seriously consider adopting her.

Reunited again after 1 1/2 years apart

In July of 2007, after much prayer, we began the adoption process. Since then I have gone back to Haiti 3 additional times with our family which includes our 2 older girls... working in the orphanage and visiting Claire and Lydie. Over the past couple of years, we have put together 2 food drives and have been able to get over 2 tons of food to the kids.

As mayor of Petionville, Lydie became a confirmed candidate for President this past November. She is running on the platform “Konbit Pou Refe Ayiti” which means “We Can Rebuild Haiti Together” which she founded. While managing her city and running for President, Lydie amazes me with her ability to care for our little girl, and 40 others, while we wait for her to come home.

I love her like my own

When the Earthquake hit, the adoption was complete and I was in the process of getting Claire her Passport and Visa in Haiti. Now with the Department of Immigration in rubble, I can not get Claire out. Lydie called me from her cell phone the day after the quake but we were cut off before she could tell me how she and Claire are doing. While I believe Claire is OK, I do not know for certain. We continue to try and contact her. I do believe Lydie is alive and helping her people survive but I desperately need the same certainty about Claire.

We have heard from a contact in Haiti that the kids are running out of water and food is almost gone. Disease is rampant and the stench of dead bodies is making people very sick. I cannot even imagine the emotional trauma my daughter is experiencing.

I am extremely concerned for her safety and well being and need to get her out quickly. I have started “Operation Rescue Claire” and have contacted everyone from the State Dept. to the Haitian Embassy in Washington... no one can help me. I am asking that you please help me get my daughter out of Haiti!

Face Book- "Operation Rescue Claire"

On January 17, 2010 KCRA News broadcast Claire's story, shedding light on the lack of help from government officials, and the immediate need for Claire, and so many other adopted children to be released from Haiti. We pray something will be done, soon.

We appreciate all those who have offered prayers and support. Thank you.
